ACTION WORK

There are many little jobs that could come under this heading. Most of them would be carried out when the gun is serviced, including tightening the barrels to the action, replacing worn springs, firing pins, light trigger pulls. In my own workshop I have a full range of tools and machinery with which I can make most parts required, if they are not available from the manufacturer.

Take heart! There are very few problems which can’t be overcome in a shotgun action, with the right knowledge and a well equipped workshop.

This was the gas piston assembly of a Beretta 391 I was recently asked to work on. Surprise! Surprise! It wasn’t working very well!

Regular cleaning and servicing would have avoided this problem and a days ruined pigeon shooting.

UPDATE 04/02/09

Around Christmas, I was given a Perazzi case, with the repair label saying “clean thoroughly”. It did not prepare me for what I found inside. Pictures speak louder than words, so here they are. What do you think?

This is the action of a Perazzi SCO side plate, a really beautiful gun, approximately 6 years old, never serviced or cleaned. The former owner had lavished oil on the stock, but neglected to ensure it had not run into the action. The action had all but seized up, and it was given to ne by Chris Potter’s to clean and service. (The label was right, it did need a clean)

That’s a bit better isn’t it? I love the subtle detail of the engraving. Notice the shadows of the birds in the water. This is a truly beautiful gun. So if you have the odd £14,000 laying around and fancy treating yourselves, contact Chris Potters for a viewing! P.s. I guarantee its very, very clean.
